Meet Mr. Johnson, School Administrator

Our School Administrator is Gary Johnson. Mr. Johnson enlisted in the US Navy in 1971 as served on board the USS Columbus CG12 as a Signalman in the 6th Fleet. After the Navy, Mr. Johnson worked as a switchman for the EJ & E RR. He started attending Moody Bible Institution in 1980. Continuing his education with his wife and two sons, Mr. Johnson moved to Lansing, Michigan and attended Great Lakes Bible College completing his Associates Degree in Religion and his Certificate of Religion. It was during this time he received his Advanced Pastoral Training for ministry, and was awarded by Great Lakes College; The Evangelism Award.

Mr. Johnson moved to Valparaiso, Indiana to complete his internship.  This internship turned into a full-time ministry upon becoming Youth and Education Pastor at South Haven Christian Church. The church had a Christian school where Mr. Johnson helped with their PE program. He also worked with the youth in their discipline program.  In 1986, Gary accepted a call to be the pastor of the Decatur Church of Christ in Decatur, Indiana where he raised his family of four boys and one daughter.

During his time in Decatur, Indiana Mr. Johnson became very involved in the Adams County School System starting out as a substitute teacher. He then went on to be a teacher, a 7th grade team leader, and eventually a member of the Indiana School Board Association.  He served as Vice President of the School Board. Other areas of service in Decatur included serving as a Chaplin with the County Sheriff and Fire Department. He also worked with the Boys and Girls Club to raise over one million dollars for a new facility.

Upon leaving Decatur, Gary was led to Bradenton Florida two weeks prior 9/11 occurring. On the morning of 9/11 Mr. Johnson was requested by Chief Smith and the Sherriff Department to immediately come to their 911 switch board where he was asked address all he first responders on their circuit by reading scripture and praying with them. Mr. Johnson was very involved in the community and upon his leaving, Mayor Fred Icsh awarded him the Key to the City.

While ministering in Bradenton Florida, Doug Dykstra, a longtime friend and fellow pastor, extended a call for him to become the principal of Adventure Christian Academy. He says this ministry has been the greatest blessing in his life because God has used him to minister to young people and families in a very special way.
